Both of my friends started to call for help, they thought I was having a stroke or heart attack. I guess I just turned as red as the pepper. I love my hot food, but have never done that again. We all know there isn't too much you can do, except wait for the burn to go away. Yes, drinking milk or eating something salty will help.

Those things are good and spicy, I tend to eat them with a piece of the meat that the meal comes with so I can get some flavor with that burn though.

Hot, spicy, peppery food generally comes from the poorest areas of the world, as hot peppers have a way of curbing your appetite.

I've seen it in Mexico, early morning, some poorer folks munching on jalapeno peppers, like they were candy. More than likely, they couldn't afford to eat breakfast or lunch that day, and eating those peppers will more than curb your appetite, also a great way to lose weight.

In India, they chew on spicy betal nuts, to stave off hunger. You see the red/magenta splotches all over the sidewalks, from spitting. At first, I thought it was blood they were spitting up, but no, it was from chewing betal nuts.

I've been all over China. Cantonese cuisine is very un-spicy, but when I arrived in the SW corner of China, I saw hot red chili peppers everywhere in the markets, signaling I had come to a poorer district of China, Szechuan Province! And if you get up to Mongolia, yikes! You're back in hot pepper land again!

I love Mongolian Beef or Pork, but I dig out those red peppers before I eat it!

I learned the hard way, when I cut up hot peppers today, I wear disposable gloves!

and I still haven't learned to use gloves; stupid is as stupid does; Last night I put too many red pepper flakes on my pizza. I had to grab the buttermilk. It did work I will add or certainly helped.

I have a high tolerance to hot chiles, and I use a lot of Serrano or Habaneros when cooking things like Chile Verde and other Mexican dishes. BTW, does anyone know where to find ghost peppers? I can't find them in grocery stores, and I'd like to challenge my endurance.

I grew my own. I do see them occasionally at my local supermarket. There is one place in town that carries out of the ordinary stuff and they recently advertised they had carolina reapers for sale. I haven't actually gone yet but may soon. I got my seeds on ebay and grew them without too many problems. I live in a warm climate and my biggest problem eventually became insects. I grew some red Bhut Jolokia and some Dorset nagas. I ate some raw, pickled them and dried them. I still have some dried. I then tried some yellow scorpions. Those sprouted but I could not get them to grow anymore. I will try again soon. I also have an incredibly high tolerance. I would still say they are quite hot. For most folks they would be too overpowering especially if you eat them straight. I cut the pepper into thin slices and add them to a taco or a hamburger. Very tasty.

I don't wear gloves, either. Yeah, I'll be fine... until I'm not.
